About A River’s Edge Lodging

A Rivers Edge Lodging is Damascus’ premier and most recently opened lodging facility. It is owned and operated by 2 families who decided to buy the 1930’s Craftsman style home and develop it as the most comfortable and desirable lodging option in Damascus, Virginia. 2015 is our inaugural year, and we have had a blast preparing the property for future guests.

The small town of Damascus attracts over 150,000 tourists each year. Most of these folks come to ride the infamous Creeper Trail, but a substantial number also come for hiking, fly fishing, camping, horseback riding, and a myriad of other outdoor activities. The highly celebrated Trail Days festival held in Damascus each May attracts over 20,000 visitors! The Appalachian Trail also crosses through Damascus, and Mount Rogers National Recreation Area as well as Hungry Mother State Park are only a short drive away. Additionally, historic Abingdon, which is a tourist destination of its own, lies at one end of the Creeper Trail, only 15 miles away.

Damascus is amazingly picturesque; 2 river sized creeks run through town and join the Holston River just at town’s edge, and the town itself is nestled among stately mountains all around. Whitetop Mountain, SW Virginia’s second highest peak at 5500 feet above sea level, is the starting point for most who come here to ride the Creeper Trail.

a-rivers-edge-lodging15Our property has a 4600 s.f. primary residence and a 900 s.f. apartment above our garage. The residence is divided into 3 private living spaces in addition to the apartment above the garage. The house and garage sit on the edge of Laurel Creek, which is river-sized rather than creek sized. The view of the river from every one of our 4 lodging options is part of what makes A Rivers Edge Lodging so special and so desirable. The house has a large rear deck overlooking the river, a large covered front porch, and a second large deck upstairs also looking out on the river. The sound of the water flowing is music to the ears for all who experience it. The inside facilities are appointed with casually elegant furniture for guests’ comfort.

Our 4 spaces have independent thermostats, central air conditioning, emergency generator power back up, and an oil furnace back up for those chillier early spring and fall evenings. Additonally, we have riverside Adirondack seating around a romantic fire pit. And one of Damascus’ many bike rental shops is one block from our property.

We are confident that once you review our website and see the magic of A Rivers Edge Lodging, you will want this to be your home away from home while you take in the splendor of the Appalachian Mountains in this region.
